Flatland

This is going to be a big experiment, more than anything else. For many years, I’ve wanted to illustrate the 1898 book FLATLAND by J Abbott. It’s about life in a 2D world, as narrated by a square. But I wanted to have the images from the point of view of the narrator, and this is a rough draft of how that’s going to be accomplished.

What looks like a simple band of colour is actually a flat circle king flanked by two triangle guards. Abbott proposed that Flatland was covered by a grey mist, and its inhabitants emerged from that mist in such a way that one could tell if it was a circle or a hexagon or something else. And I’m attempting to capture that… somehow… 🙂

This should be… interesting………
